CHASA Board sets Goals

The CHASA Board met on 18 and 19 February in Kuruman at the club house facilities of the Kalahari Hunters Association. On the Friday a strategic plan was work shopped which heralds an exciting new era for CHASA and its member associations. The strategic planning included some swot analysis to identify CHASA’s strengths and weaknesses, threats to hunters and opportunities in the industry. The meeting also took a thorough look at the changing environment within which organised hunting operates and identified potential risks to hunting. CHASA’s core mission was acknowledged to be: Promoting sustainable ethical hunting through leadership and the coordination of activities of member associations.

Goals for the immediate future was set and included:
To build relationships
- for a united hunting industry,
- to tie up with conservation & hunting internationally,
- and to build relations with the shooting sports & arms dealers.

To establish an empowered association
- with a new constitution,
- a sustainable financial policy,
- an office with efficient administration,
- with effective communication,
- and a national lobbying capacity.

To set national standards
- in training courses,
- in shooting exercises,
- in awards,
- in service levels
- and in the development of ethical codes.

To serve members
- by sourcing and interpreting legislation,
- awarding DH status,
- negotiating hunting rights in reserves,
- and by supporting community development and BEE.
