New Strategic Direction for CHASA.

A CHASA Council meeting will be held on 19 February 2005 at Kuruman where an exciting new strategic plan will be tabled before the Council for approval. The plan is the product of a planning session conducted by the Executive Committee after consultation over a wide spectrum. As departure point the plan acknowledges that CHASA is serving the interest of hunters and hunting through representative hunting associations and that services are rendered to individual members via these associations. The Executive is further committed to the King Report on good corporate governance and ethical management and proposes the following mission:

“Promoting sustainable ethical hunting through leadership and the co-ordination of activities of member associations.”

The Strategy which will be followed centres around the positioning of CHASA as the organisation to set standards on a national basis, i.e. Standards in ethical hunting, training, shooting, recording and service rendering. The strategic aims of the plan is: -

· Conservation through sustainable utilization;
· Promotion of a culture of ethical hunting;
· Standardisation in products and outputs;
· Representation of hunters at national level and
· Excellence in education and training.

The plan also include the formulation of an improved constitution which will make provision for decision making in terms of modern corporate principles – it must also be constituted in such a manner that it provides a support base in pursueing the mission of CHASA. It inter alia makes provision for the appointment of Board Members who will not necessarily represent member associations, but who can make a significant contribution through their unique skills and expertise.

The Council will also attend to the establishment of an Office in Uitenhage and the appointment of a paid official to manage the office on a full time basis. CHASA’s new positioning already resulted in various organizations approaching the Executive on possible affiliation and the indication is that CHASA will soon be in a position accommodate organizations over wide spectrum. The Council will also adopt a policy with regard to the qualifying criteria and application procedures for new affiliates.
